The Malta Association of Hospitality Executives (MAHE) refers to the story published by The Malta Independent on Friday January 24, 2014, whereby Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella sets the records straight after L-Orrizont had published a story about the alleged abuse by Malta Tourism Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Josef Formosa Gauci.
MAHE expresses that such unsubstantiated stories on key personnel in the industry can only create uncertainty and speculations in the tourism international market. MAHE President Mr Joe Attard stated that “The council will under no circumstances defend unlawful activity, especially abuse of power, if ever this was the case.
“It is imperative to understand that it is in the national interest that allegations are dealt with major sensitivity and responsibility due to the holistic ripple effects on the industry. As the Tourism Minister stated, ‘the best asset in any company is its human resources’ and what is built through years of trust and hard work can be destroyed in minutes through instability and uncertainty. Protecting our tourism industry is everybody’s responsibility.
“It is instrumental that in order to achieve results as seen these last years by the Hospitality Industry, by which the Maltese nation stands to gain, all stakeholders should pull the same rope for the benefit of the country in general.”
