The Malta Association for Hospitality Executives this evening expressed concern over speculation about who will replace former Malta Tourism Authority CEO Josef Formosa Gauci following his recent resignation.

It said major foreign tour operators were asking serious questions about this resignation following the ferocious attack on Mr Formosa Gauci in January.

“Whoever will occupy this position has the responsibility towards all tourism and hospitality workers as well as to provide the best tourism offer to all guest visiting our islands. Mr Formosa Gauci has always been praised by the industry for his in depth knowledge and close contacts with key stakeholders that form the tourism industry both locally and internationally.

“He was always considered a team member rather than boss, who had only the best interest for the industry.”

The MAHE said that finding a new CEO would not be easy for anyone. The industry needed someone who was knowledgeable, understood and felt passionate about tourism and hospitality.

Association president Joe Attard said politics should be kept miles away from such a volatile and sensitive industry.

MAHE thanked Mr Formosa Gauci for his six years of dedication and said it looked forward to cooperating with whoever took up this role to ensure a smooth transition.

As speculations rise on who will be the next CEO at MTA following the resignation of Mr Formosa Gauci, the tourism industry seems to be the last to know yet the first to suffer.

With such an abrupt resignation, during the peak of tourism in Malta and as visitors numbers continue to rise, the Malta Association for Hospitality Executives (MAHE) feels that they should address how this change will affect the tourism industry. Major foreign tour operators are asking serious questions about this resignation following the ferocious attack on Mr Formosa Gauci last January. Whoever will occupy this position has the responsibility towards all tourism and hospitality workers as well as to provide the best tourism offer to all guest visiting our islands.

Mr Formosa Gauci has always been praised by the industry for his in depth knowledge and close contacts with key stakeholders that form the Tourism Industry both locally and internationally. He was always considered as a “team member” rather than a “boss”, who had only the best interest for the industry. Finding a new CEO will not be an easy task for anyone. The industry needs someone who is knowledgeable, comprehends and feels passionate about tourism & hospitality and who is ready to leave aside all the reds, blues or greens.

Joe Attard, MAHE President stated that “Politics should be kept miles away from this instrumental industry which is very volatile and sensitive. I do hope that government keeps in mind the sensitivity of the industry and that we will not be seeing political appointees. The industry contributes around 25% to our GDP and employs thousands. Our concern is that on one hand we have press releases being issued praising the increases in numbers of visitors, which is no easy task to achieve, while the situation at MTA continued to degenerate since last January.” MAHE also thanked Mr Formosa Gauci for his six years of dedication and looks forward to cooperate with whoever will take up this role so that a smooth transition takes place and in the best of the industry.

                                                                                                                                                                                        Saturday, August 2, 2014, 18:51

Il-MAHE (Malta Association for Hospitality Executives ) fi stqarrija llejla esprimiet it-tħassib tagħha dwar l-effett li jista' jkollha fuq l-industrija tat-turiżmu l-ispekulazzjoni fuq min se jkun il-Kap Eżekuttiv il-ġdid tal-Awtorità Maltija għat-Turiżmu. Dan wara r-riżenja ta' Josef Formosa Gauci.

Il-MAHE qalet li l-operaturi barranin tal-vjaġġi qed jagħmlu ħafna mistoqsijiet dwar ir-riżenja ta' Formosa Gauci. Żiedet tgħid li l-politika għandha tinżamm 'il bogħod mill-industrija tat-turiżmu, li hija sensittiva ħafna, tikkontribwixxi madwar 25% tal-Prodott Domestiku Gross u timpjega eluf ta' nies.

“Ninsabu mħassbin għax filwaqt li fuq naħa għandna stqarrijiet li jfaħħru ż-żidiet fin-numru ta' turisti, li mhix biċċa xogħol faċli biex titwettaq, fuq in-naħa l-oħra għandna sitwazzjoni fl-MTA li ilha tiddeġenera minn Jannar li għadda,” intqal fl-istqarrija.

Is-settur turistiku huwa settur sensittiv u għandu jinżamm ‘il bogħod mill-politika. Għaldaqstant nittama li l-gvern ma jagħmilx ħatriet politiċi fl-għażla ta’ Kap Eżekuttiv gdid tal-Awtorita Maltija għat-Turiżmu.

Kliem Joe Attard il-President tal-Malta Assoċiation of Hospitality Exeċutives fi stqarrija li fiha l-Assoċjazzjoni staqsiet min se jkun il-Kap Eżekuttiv il-ġdid tal-Awtorita Maltija għat-Turiżmu.

L-istqarrija tgħid li, hekk kif qed jikbru l-ispekulazzjonijiet dwar min se jkun il-Kap Eżekuttiv il-ġdid wara r-riżenja ta’ Josef Formosa Gauċi, l-industrija tat-turiżmu jidher li se tkun l-aħħar li se tkun taf minkejja li tkun l-ewwel waħda li tbati.

L-istqarrija tfaħħar il-ħidma ta’ Josef Formosa Gauċi li kellu kuntatti tajbin ma’ għadd kbir ta’ msieħba f’dan is-settur u li dejjem hadem bi spirtu ta’ tim. L-istqarrija tirreferi wkoll għall-għadd kbir ta’ mistoqsijiet li qamu wara r-riżenja ta’ Formosa Gauċi partikolarment wara l-attakk li sar fuqu f’Jannar.

L-istqarrija tfakkar li s-settur turistiku jikkontribwixxi għall-25% tal-prodott Gross Domestiku u jimpjega eluf ta’ nies. L-Assoċjażżjoni esprimiet it-thassib tagħha li fl-istess nifs li qed joħorġu stqarrijiet għall-istampa li jfaħħru ż-żieda ta’ turisti li jżuru pajjiżna s-sitwazzjoni fl-Awtorita Maltija għat-Turiżmu ilha tiddeġenera minn Jannar li għadda.

Il-Malta Association of Hospitality Executives tisħaq li mhux se jkun faċli li jinstab Kap Eżekuttiv gdid għall-Awtorita Maltija għat-Turiżmu u tishaq li l-industrija tinħtieg lil xi hadd li għandu għarfien wiesa’ tas-settur, li jħobb jaħdem fil-qasam tat-turiżmu u tal-ospitalita u li huwa lest li jwarrab kull sentiment ta’ kulur politiku.

Fi stqarrija il-Malta Association of Hospitality Executives (MAHE) qalet li r-riżenja tas-CEO ta’ l-Awtorita’ Maltija tat-Turiżmu, l-MTA, Josef Formosa Gauci, wasslet għal spekulazzjoni kbira fl-industrija dwar min ser ikun is-suċċessur tiegħu. L-MAHE qalet li sfortunatament l-industrija qegħda tkun l-ewwel li ssofri iżda l-aħħar li tkun infurmata.

L-istqarrija saħqet li operaturi barranin qegħdin jistaqsu bosta mistoqsijiet dwar din ir-riżenja speċjalment wara l-attakki ħorox li saru kontra Formosa Gauci f’Jannar. L-MAHE qalet li l-kariga għandha bżonn xi ħadd b’passjoni għall-industrija tat-turiżmu l-ospitalita’ u li għandu għarfien sew ta’ l-industrija. L-istess stqarrija tappella sabiex il-politika partiġġjana tinżamm barra minn din l-industrija delikata u sensittiva.

L-MAHE li hija għaqda għall-ħaddiema f’livell maniġerjali fl-industriji tal-ospitalita’, t-turiżmu, u l-ivvjaġġar rringrazzjat lil Josef Formosa Gauci għall-ħidma tiegħu. Ħidma li l-istess MAHE faħħret b’mod estensiv.
