An original Norman residence hidden amongst the honeycombed streets of Mdina, Malta’s medieval capital, the restaurant evokes natural charm and character.
Dine in truly romantic surroundings beneath the flowering Oleander tree in the vine-clustered courtyard during the summer, and by candle-light and an open log fireplace that keeps the restaurant warm during the winter months.
The restaurant is a mixture of ingredients designed to please the most discerning clients. The Medina presents a selected à la Carte menu based on Mediterranean and local cuisine, frequently changed to guarantee the pleasure of regular diners. The Malta Association Hospitality Executives would like to acknowledge the great work done by its members in the field of Hospitality.
One way of acknowledging its members is through recommending the property that they work in. However, we feel that we cannot recommend all the properties where our members work as this could possibly include most of the properties in Malta. As such, we are only recommending those properties where the General Manager / the Managing Director / CEO / owner is a member of the MAHE. The reason for this is that we are requesting the participating members to sign up to the Association’s Code of Conduct on behalf of the properties they work in.
We hope that should you take up our recommendation and visit these properties you will enjoy the service provided and recommend these properties to your friends.
The association will not take any responsibility or enter into any litigation should there be a problem with the properties, however we will do our best to investigate any complaint received by the Association with the concerned property and should there be justification for the complaint without agreed remedies, we reserve the right to remove the property from the Association’s website.
It all started 35 years ago, when the (late) Joseph Debattista, an enterpreneur, had decided to open a new catering business for his children right in the heart of an emerging tourist resort by the name of Bugibba. Hence The Mirabelle Snack Bar was born! Between 1981 and 1987 the snack bar was a hit with locals and tourists alike who flocked to the establishment daily. 20 hour food and drink sessions were in fact the order of the day.
In 1987 Mirabelle Snack Bar saw the first expansion, and soon Joseph and his family were celebrating the opening of The Mirabelle Bar and Restaurant. This was yet again a hit with thousands of patrons who graced the establishment with their presence day in day out.
Towards the year 2000 Malta had become a modern European economy and this saw the influx of International catering giants such as McDonalds, Burger King, KFC to name but a few.
The Debattista family had one choice, either throw the towel in or compete. Marshalled forward by Joseph’s son, Rennie Debattista, the Mirabelle Bar and Restaurant saw another significant change in the premises. This saw the birth of Fat Harry’s Pub, built on ideas from the (late) Richard Young and the Debattista family. This pub was the perfect competitor to the big International chains and soon became a hit with old and new clients alike, thus complementing the excellent track record belonging to Mirabelle Restaurant.
Things were going extremely well until the family lost Joseph in October 2004. The Debattista family turned grief into positivity when they invested and created a 2nd outlet, Fat Harry’s Pub, at Malta International Airport. This new outlet was totally dedicated to the man whose vision in 1979 was the mastermind behind this continuouing success story.

The Country Terrace Lounge Bar & Restaurant
A great restaurant with stunning views in Gozo, the Country Terrace Restaurant in Mgarr, Gozo is perched upon cliffs overlooking the idyllic Mgarr Harbour and with views extending across Comino, Malta and the inviting blue Mediterranean sea. The restaurant’s interiors are cosy and full of character, but dining al fresco in the evening in summer time can be extra special. Malta’s lights glistine across the sea channel and you can also see the occassional firework display if coinciding with a village feast!
However, the Country Terrace restaurant is far from being just about its location and panoramic views. With a kitchen run by Joseph, the chef patron, you can rest assured that each dish is prepared fresh and with the best local ingredients. Ranging delicious pasta, fish and meat dishes, the cuisine has a modern twist to it with lovely presentation and even better taste. The menu is complemented with tempting sweets and a comprehensive wine list covering both new and old world wines. The service and atmosphere at the Country Terrace is casual and with the trademark Gozitan welcoming feel.
